Top 5 tips for spring cleaning in 2020

As the weather starts to warm up, now is the time to start opening your windows, and perhaps less exciting, bring out your cleaning supplies – ready for a spring clean. Tidying up all year round will prevent the deepest of deep cleans come March/April, making your life easier, and here are our top five tips to help you get it done in minimal time:

  1. Make a schedule

The first thing to do is to create a plan – outlining exactly what needs doing and which areas need the most work. Wherever you start, having a plan for what you’re doing in each room will help you to stay focused on the task at hand and work more productively.

  1. Declutter

A disorganised home not only makes it difficult to find what you’re looking for when you need it most but also adds to your stress levels and makes it harder for you to thoroughly clean.

Set aside some time to organise your wardrobe and get rid of clothes that no longer fit or haven’t been worn in a long time. You could either donate them to friends and family who will make better use of them or take them to the local charity shop. Sorting through cupboards filled with junk will also help to eliminate stress.

  1. Work from top to bottom

No matter what room you’re in, we always recommend starting from the ceiling and working your way down towards the floor. This forces debris downwards, so you needn’t worry about having to re-dust or re-clean the same areas, time and time again.

If you have a vacuum with an extension hose, use it to get cobwebs and dust from the ceiling and fans. You can then dust your furniture down before hoovering the dust and debris on the floor.

  1. Keep cleaning products to a minimum

You’ll notice that cleaning aisles in supermarkets are stocked full of commercial cleaning products – ranging from chemicals and detergents. Buying more cleaning products can add to the clutter already under the sink or in cupboards. Our best advice would be to resist the temptation to buy new supplies and make use of basic products, such as a good multi-purpose cleaner and microfiber cloths.

  1. Choose a suitable disposal solution

Spring clearance projects are known to generate lots of rubbish – and not just dust and dirt. When you declutter, you need somewhere to put waste items and what better way than to hire a skip from a reputable company, like us at Skips Preston?
